All the President's Men

 After watching Alan J. Pakula's Klute (1971), I wanted to see the other two films in his "paranoia trilogy": The Parallax View (1974) and All The President's Men (1976).  After watching a documentary on Watergate itself, I found this great conversation with Woodward, Bernstein, and Robert Redford about how the ATPM came to be made; it turns out that Redford approached them even before the Watergate hearings, and before they had even written the book because he was fascinated about them as characters and about their process. His interest helped them write the book (1974), and his role as producer was key to getting the film made, just a few years after the events. Watching it today, it seems unbelievable that so much of the story came to light and that the institutions of investigation actually worked as well as they did.
