Yesterday I went to my friend's apartment in Park Slope with the idea that we would drive back to my place with a rug. But when I saw the rug rolled up, I chickened out because it seemed like it would be too big for my place. I don't want to end up with something I can't use or get rid of easily. My friend was understanding, and I ended up coming back on the subwat with two bags of stuff: the casserole dish, a silicone baking mold for banana bread, a coffee grinder and a mini food processor. I turned down a couple of other items. We had a lovely lunch at an Italian place called SottoVoce which is one guy who does all the cooking and waiting on tables by himself. He came out an recited a huge list of specials, and I ended up having orrechiete and sausage, in a tomato sauce, just what I wanted after watching all 86 episodes of The Sopranos in which all the characters were eating all the time.
My friend's place is heaped with books! Mine is still heaped with boxes and stuff I don't want. I will try today to put everything away somehow. That is my goal. I stuffed most of my boxes in a big box but I realize that the recyclers will not take it like that and I will have to tie the boxes in bundles. I did find some kitchen string and there is some tape around. I have a pile of stuff that I don't want but I don't know how to get rid of it. I cold put it on the street. But I need to check to see when it's going to rain again. Ugh, I find so many things to fret about.
I took a shower and got a message from the landlord Jason that some ConEd workmen need access to the basement between 12-4 so I should stick around. That will be when I am working on finishing the unpacking and tying up the boxes. I so do not want to have to do this! But I must!
I have just one more box left to deal with! I repacked some stuff and put boxes in the corner of the living room, next to my dresser/shelf set-up. I have one more box of random junk and two containers I can redistribute it in. I still have at least one empty dresser drawer. While I would prefer not to have these boxes stacked in the corner, I've reached capacity with all my dressers. All my clothing and books have been stored and so has most of my random stuff. I also bundled the boxes with packing tape and will put them out tomorrow night and HOPE they get taken away!
Excursion of the day: I went to the laundromat for the first time, right around the corner. It was just a little crowded but I got machines right away and used my bag of quarters and the soap I bought earlier today, and did a New Yorker crossword puzzle while I waited. I can see it being a chore when the weather is not good, but I'll deal with that when the time comes. Now I have clean stuff and yet another set of sheets that needed the sizing washed out of them. I got the laundry soap this morning along with a shoe rack--gotta wear the shoes or give them away! It fits perfectly in my entryway storage area.
