Survived a curriculum committee meeting, a faculty meeting, and managed to eat lunch! Now I'm going to cruise the Twitter updates because I'm finding that it's a great place to get news, like my customized RSS feed.

The New Republic article is very interesting and gave me a weird, wee hours thought: is this the rise of the Obamista party? There are (benign) caudillo-like resonances in this. I feel like getting an Obama T shirt with the flag on it to wear abroad. (That would make me a kind of denizen, though. Follow the leader.) I wonder if we will get "right Obamistas" and "left Obamistas" (as in the Peronist party).
I think we already had those 8 years of soft fascism with Rove/Cheney, where the Republican party was hijacked for an anti-democratic agenda, but we weren't supposed to call it a coup because they didn't bomb the White House.
Unless Obama gets a veto-proof majority in the Senate, he's going to have to work his ass off to get enough backing to pass really progressive legislature. And the minor appointments to various bureacracies are going to have major effects: who will be running the latin american side of things, for example?
The right wing has already made plenty of Obama=Hitler videos. Seriously, they are scary shit.
P.S. He has Michelle, but I don't think she'll be Evita!
